the (very) end is nigh.

Saturday, May 19th is the Preview Party, and Sunday the 20th is graduation. I can't believe it's really that time...

the countdown to the end...

Last week I started attaching bracers to the backs of my paintings, to make them flat and get them ready for framing.

Today I had some of my finished pieces shot, and you can see them on my Oil Paintings page.  Later this week I'll be building and staining frames for everything... I really can't believe I'm nearing the end of my senior year in college.  I hope I'll still be able to find other artists to be around, since they're usually the only people that don't think I'm strange.

steady as she goes

I've managed to stay on top of my school work so far this year.  I just added some of my experimental digital art to my "Watercolor and Acrylic" page... now appropriately titled "Watercolor/Acrylic/Digital." I do have some new in-progress shots of my senior work, but I think I'll hold off on posting them until the pieces are done and photographed themselves.

Pretty soon the framing process will start! And then before you can say "New Hampshire Institute of Art" I'll be graduating. Yikes...

gold on the ceiling

I'll be working on my capstone for the next couple weeks, entries for the Minumental show, and a couple tattoo designs. I sold a piece at J Dubs, which I'm pretty happy about, and next week I start assisting artist/teacher Holly Popielarz, which I am incredibly excited about :]

My wonderful SS teacher suggested that I photograph my work at every stage of creating it, so I've started doing exactly that. I remember my high school photography teacher telling me that too, but I don't think my process was as involved/developed then as it is now. Anyway. I'll be posting pictures of pieces in progress in blog entries like this, but the finished pieces will always be found on the "Oil Paintings" page!

At this point I had to let it dry before I did anything else. Next victim-

Very early stage with this one, but there is a new painting up that I had posted a w.i.p. picture of previously, and two new watercolors!

newer things (not very well-photographed)

This week, hopefully, I'll be getting some of my work shot properly. Also, I have gotten business cards! If you'd like me to send you a few, just e-mail me with your address and I'd be happy to do that :]

And for now... here's some shots of what I've been working on for Senior Studio.

on a modified wooden pallet

this has had some other work done to it,
but this is the most recent photo i have.
(2 panels)
the only one i've really "finished"

And, some recent watercolors that I also haven't taken good pictures of. I'll be putting my watercolor work up in J Dubs Coffee soon, so if you're in Manchester, keep an eye out.

Welcome!

First and foremost: Thank you! I appreciate anyone taking time to look at my site and my artwork.  If you have questions or you want to buy/commission something, please e-mail me at whenpaintflies@gmail.com. I loooove to talk about art.

So, I've deleted all the extraneous blog posts from the site, but decided to maintain the front page as a blog to post art-related things that are relevant to my life and/or my work. Keep an eye out for my fancy business cards... coming, hopefully, soon :]

fangirl moment!

so i did a drawing for the guys of My Chemical Romance last week. saw them on May 5th (with The Architects and Thursday, AMAZING SHOW!) and even though i frisbee'd the drawing on stage and it landed face-down and i was certain it was getting tossed in the trash, someone passed it off to them! look at this gloriousness!

this is the picture i took, for posterity, you know:

and here is their lead guitarist's tweet! Ray Toro's incredible hands... holding my artwork. *swoon*

day two.

still not done, i'm going back next sunday to finish though.

the texture of the wall is so weird and uneven... but i think it's turning out pretty well, and the owners seem to like it. i'm exhausted, but in a good way :]
